A life update, with pictures to come!

So I am without my pictures right now, but I will update you with them later today.

For now, here’s an update:

1. Soccer — Last week I was sick on Tuesday, and tonight my team has a game, so there was no practice. As I am not technically on the team yet, this means I have missed 2 weeks of soccer (I usually can’t make it to games.) This is a bummer, and I haven’t done much physical activity in the past few weeks because I have been sick. But I’m almost over it, now.

2. Writing — After the fiasco at the place I was writing for a few weeks ago, I have gotten discouraged, but have not given up. I am looking for another paper or magazine to free lance for. More to come.

3. Coaching/volunteering — I have become a volleyball coach, and our first game is this weekend. I have to do something cool like call my team and let them know about practice. I should also probably look up some drills, on account of the fact that I have never coached volleyball before. We’ll see how that goes.

4. Free coffee — I have found a place at my job that provides coffee. Who knew? Not me. Yes, free coffee every other morning, I would like you to fill my giant mug. Thanks for asking.

5. Life in general — I’ve been watching lots of Everwood, as well as reading a lot. I’m trying to get on top of my stuff, but a new Real Simple rolled in yesterday, so it’s about time for a break…

And now, a glam shot from the photo shoot:

Can I rant, for a moment?

I will post for real later today–with updates on my plants, some Easter photos, and some life update.

But for now, I must rant.

I wrote an article, and my editor said it needed a lot of work, and that a lot of it had to be changed, so she took me off the writer’s list–without telling me, without responding to my email that asked why she made the changes she had, and why she hadn’t asked me to make them, instead.

The problem is that the articles are almost identitical–the one I wrote, and the one she printed. Their is one paragraph added, and some language (which means, style, which is a writer’s preference, not a sign of bad writing) that is different. That’s it.

I am so angry. But, alas, it’s the real world. I shall continue to look for other writing opportunities, because I know I am a good writer, and will find work somewhere.

Thanks for reading, more later. xo.

Tokyo!

tokyo

So last night Jeff and I went to the only theater in LA showing Tokyo! the movie.

It was a Triptych by three different directors, with three stories about Tokyo.

The first was about a woman and a man who move to Tokyo. The man tells her that she has no ambition, and she takes this to heart, and wonders why her hobbies can’t be counted as ambitions. This bothers her, and as she thinks more and more about it she becomes upset. One morning, she walks up with a gaping hole in her chest, and she ends up turning into a chair. She turns from human to chair, seemingly at will, and someone brings her home and she lives her life as a human when this person is out, and is a chair for him when he’s home. It was a beautiful story, and I really enjoyed this one.

The second was weird. It was about this sewer-dweller, Merde, who comes out of the sewers and terrorizes people. Eventually, he finds a stash of grenades underground and brings them up and throws them into the crowds of Tokyo. He is caught, and brought to trial. The only person who can understand him is this French lawyer. Apparently, only three people in the world speak his strange, strange language. What pursues is many scenes of translation from his language to French to Japanes and back again. It was interesting, but creepy, because for a lot of the scenes you are following the creature and have his perspective, rather than the crowd’s perspective, which is almost creepier.

The third was one about a man, a hikikomori, which is a Japanese word for someone who never leaves his house. He has not left his house for 10 years. He has everything delivered. Then, one day, he looks up at a delivery person, making eye contact for the first time in 11 years. The whole scene shakes, and the delivery woman falls into a coma. He instantly falls in love, or infatuation?, with her, and seeks her out again, leaving his home to find her.

The movie/movies were wonderful. The middle one was strange, but I was so interested in the mini stories that twisted reality and the surreal, almost fantasy. It reminded me a bit of Pan’s Labyrinth, in the sense that the surrealism seemed realistic to the situation.

I reccomend renting this one on Netflix when it comes out.

Sick. Sick. Sick.

Hi guys!

Turns out this weekend ended up being my sick weekend. From Saturday to Tuesday I was lying on the couch, and now I sit at work with my ear clogged so I hear everything with an echo.

A quick update in 5 things:

1. I am working in a different office which means I am constantly surrounded by children, work, and teachers. It’s good, busy, and productive.

2. I am now a volleyball coach. I went to help out this weekend and did well with the kids, so the Coach asked if I could be a volleyball coach since there were tons of soccer coaches. I said “Yes, of course!” Do I know anything about volleyball? No…but I am good enough at it. Bump, set, spike!

3. I wrote an article. It was for Valley Scene Magazine. I don’t live in the Valley, but I do frequent it a lot.  Check it out.

4. I missed practice this week because I was sick. It was a bummer, but hopefully  by next week I’ll be able to get back out there.

5. Easter is this weekend! And Jeff’s special day on Saturday. It’s a surprise, so I can’t tell you what it is, but you’ll think it’s cool, too. I’ll let you know after it’s over.
