whatever you got on, girl, stay in it.

Happy Friday lovelies. I am in a great mood today and I am excited for this epic weekend that we have planned around these parts, so here are 5 good things to cruise into the weekend with:

1. This weekend is our famed Heart Cake shoot – we are making lots of crafts and getting lots of our friends involved (pretty much our MO for all things that seem overwhelming) and it’s one of the labor of loves that I really, really enjoy doing (especially surrounded by so many lovely friends!)

2. Guys, I have pretty much blown this up all over the Internet, but I am a headstand doing fool. I have been popping headstands all over the damn place, because I can. I am so excited to be getting stronger and doing more inversions, and it’s giving my confidence all over the place in things related nothing to yoga. Up next – forearm headstand, and of course I am working up to a pull up because killer arms, hello.

3. I am now in love with Sam Hunt, so I will be exclusive with him for a bit musically speaking. I had dabbled in him earlier, but he’s everything I love in tunes: singer/songwriter, a little R&B, a little rap, hilarious lyric, and he’s even a little country. Plus, that hair? I’m in.

4. Mat Kearney’s album comes out soon, and after my torrid love affair with Sam I will slide back over to Mat in February and then get to see him in March with a slew of great friends. Talk about lucky. This year is going to kill musically.

5. This baby and animal combo post makes me happy and smiley. Enjoy it as much as I did.

Happy weekend, y’all. I hope you have the best one yet, whatever you’re doing.

5 Good Things: Hang a Shining Star

1. It’s Tuesday already, which means we’re one day closer to the weekend, when I am headed to see Theo (and the rest of the family) for Christmas!

2. Listening to all the Christmas jams, specifically “A Very Special Christmas” and Natalie Merchant’s “Children Go Where I Send Thee” and City High’s “Oh Come All Ye Faithful.”

3. We had our annual Yankee Swap this weekend, and I got a sweet macaroon kit that I am excited to try out. Also, this picture courtesy of Eva, as I didn’t know I was part of the photo.

4. Book Club tonight – I love one more gathering of most of my fave LA ladies before we all separate for the holiday season.

5. Banana bread, chocolate peanut butter cookies, truffles, and giant salads is pretty much all I’m eating for the next few days as the fridge clean out continues until we leave on Saturday.

Happy Tuesday, chickens, hope you’re having a lovely pre-holiday week!

i could show you incredible things

Hey y’all. It’s been radio silence since August, and I apologize for that. Things have been crazy, even beyond the fact that I was off getting married!

When more photos become available, I will obviously share. In the meantime, have some good things that have made my busy a little less painful…

1) I don’t care what you say, the new Tay-Swift album is a great dance mix for bopping around the GMS kitchen with Cor.

2) I just finished Penny Marshall’s autobiography, “My Mother was Nuts” and it was stellar – so funny and a good look into the world of Hollywood. I recommend it to anyone looking for a lighter-hearted read!

3) EVERYONE please start listening to the podcast Serial. It is so fascinating. Katie and Dan got me hooked (THANKS GUYS) and I want to know who you think did it. I think it was Jay.

4) Guys, this is gushy and gross but I love that Jeff and I are married! It’s fun to say “my husband” and we’re having a good time settling in to this new stage in our life, even though it’s not super different than before.

5) This coming weekend, I’m headed to Palm Springs for K + J’s wedding, and then the following weekend I am headed to Austin to reunite with Lisa B. and K + SS, and THEN it’s Thanksgiving. I am one lucky kid.

What are y’all up to? Tell me about your life!

let us love // like we were children

Today is my birthday, chickens, and I am pretty excited to be celebrating another year around these parts!

The sun is shining out here in Los Angeles, and yesterday I had just an amazing day with all my friends out at Angel City Brewery, having delicious beer, enjoying each other’s company, holding a pretty adorable baby, and playing some awesome games. I am so lucky to have a fiance who was willing to put that all together and so many friends to enjoy the day with!

As I celebrate this 28th year, I hope you guys can oblige me five things that I’d love for my birthday. What I’d really like for my birthday is if you could:

1. Sign up for Be the Match. Be the Match is a bone marrow registry committed to matching bone marrow donors to patients; you could help save a life, and signing up is free and takes only a few minutes.

2. Register to vote. This is an election year, and voting does make a difference. Along with this one goes ACTUALLY voting.

3. Get healthy! This is one I always am working on…doing more yoga, exercising more in general, and eating more whole foods, more fruits, more veggies, etc. The big things for this one are alleviating stress, eating better, and moving your body – guaranteed to make you happier along the way, too!

4. Do something that makes you happy. You know we all comisterate every day about something – our jobs, our roommates, our cars, our commutes, etc., etc. Today, just take an hour and do something HAPPY and then share about it, talk about THAT, and start trying to be full of gratitude instead of anger/etc. I am guilty of this too, but what a perfect day to remember how awesome my life is??

5. Unplug. Something I’m trying to do more of…put the phone down, and the blog, and the laptop, and just be in the moment. Talk to people, look them in the eyes, swim and frolick and climb and dance and enjoy life, and worry about the digital world later. Unplugging will you help you unwind, too!

I hope to follow all of these along with you, and wish everyone a great day, birthday or not!

Hey y’all! Today’s my birthday, so I am sitting over here quietly turning 27 years old and learning how to be an adult.

Here are 5gts for this day of fun!!

1. Here is a lovely music video and jam, that you should watch immediately. This is my summer jam.

2. This is NPR’s food news blog. You should read it – it’s full of information on our food system and what we can do better – plus there are quirky stories that introduce you to things you might have never thought of!

3. This is my friend Traci’s blog. It’s fun and funny and a delight, and I think that you should all follow it so your days are bright and happy.

4. This picture last night that Ellen snapped.

5. This oldie but goodie of a little boy and his dog. Enjoy!

I hope you all have a lovely Sunday!!
