Rules, regulations.

I’ve had a reader request to post more about the Scavenger Hunt, which I kind of side-swiped you with, huh? So this was the run down. It was a 12-hour scavenger hunt, 1:00 pm to 1:00 am. In that time, you had to complete as many tasks as possible on the list. It was photo-based, so the list included things like “your entire team in a shopping cart” and “crying over split milk.”

Every team had four or five teammates, and everyone had to be in the pictures, minus one person taking the photo. So if the task was, “On monkey bars” one person could BE on the monkey bars, and everyone else had to be in the frame (to prove you were together and not cheating by splitting up and trying to get more done.)

Besides being back on time (minus 10 points for every 5 minutes you were late) and having everyone one in the photo, there were no rules. The list has over 600 tasks on it, so for the sake of sparing you, I’ve listed a few more below that we did, and will definitely be adding more pictures in the days to come.

sleeping with the fishes
toasting with sparkling beverages
wearing hawaiin shirts
with a parrot
playing Ms. Pacman arcade game
in a fountain
with a stranger with more than 3 facial piercings
conga line in a public place (must involve at least 1 stranger)
Teammate receiving a swirley
running with scissors
Photo of team in a photo booth
holding a monkey
buried in the sand (more than 1/2 of your team)
Drinking out of one milkshake
On the set of a TV show or film

Here are a bunch we didn’t do but wanted to:

With a Pink Caddillac
At a museum
All Members sitting with a random family at a restaurant
With a military serviceman/servicewoman
In a comic book store
Find a grammatical error in a store sign
Sleeping on a bed in a mattress store
At a lighthouse
With a biker gang
All members dressed in camouflage clothing from head to feet
Take a shower at a car wash (bathing suit)
Helping an elderly person cross the street
With a car with no engine

It was a fun day, complete with shirts and lots of laughs. If you want to set up one with your friends, chat with me and I can give you tips!

Friday morning (afternoon) things.

I can’t seem to keep my shoes on at work (or home for that matter) for more than ten minutes.

This often results in the following conversation:

“Incoming!” (Liz says from her seat behind my desk.)

“But I’m not wearing any shoes!” I rush to find my shoes under/around my desk. Usually I am at least wearing socks, if nothing else.

Inevitably about 80% of the time I don’t find my shoes in time, and I end up having to talk to people in my socks or bare feet. This doesn’t, however, make me wear my shoes any more often.

This weekend I went to the Songkran Festival with Cricket. It is the Thai new year celebration. Here are some photographs.

Our delicious lunch. We also shared a bag of fried bananas.

There was live music everywhere!

Some of the girls that danced for a large audience. They were so lovely.

This is my Buddha pose. In Thailand, you pray to your Buddha pose that is the day of the week you were born on, and also give donation to that Buddha. I was born on Monday. Here are the rest.

This is a radish carved into a flower. Vegetable and fruit carving is very traditional to Thailand, and history points its origins to this country.

This is a fish carved out of fruit. Amazing!

More music!

After the festival, I walked home. I had the camera with me, and four miles to kill, so here’s what I found.

This is a bee for Melissa. Real flower. Real bee. He was funny.

There he goes. Pollinators are so cool!

This is why I love living in California. Fruit baskets straight from a citrus tree.

Waitin’ for the daylight to bring me home…

I’ve been saying all weekend that I want to update my blog, even though I don’t have much to update you on. Life has been cycling through work, home, sleep, and work again, to no avail. Finally we have reached a breaking point, and the season promises to slow down, thin out, allow me to slowly return to afternoons of running on the treadmill and evenings of cooking and blogging.

We’re planning a road trip, Cor and I, by the way. I posted about it on Garlic, My Soul, but for those of you who don’t read both, now you know. We’re driving the Southern route, starting the day before Easter, meandering through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia. Which, is to say, six states I’ve never been to. Seven states in all, nine days, friends and family to see, memories to make, pictures to capture, a final “hoorah!” before Garlic, My Soul goes bi-coastal.

I have this weird cold. It feels like mono, but as I know what mono feels like, it surely cannot. I’ve been getting copious amounts of sleep, lazing about, and drinking a lot of water. I also spent the better part of the weekend cleaning my house for KB’s arrival (and because, let’s be honest, the bathroom always needs a good scrub.)

Yesterday, as I was repotting my rosemary and aloe, Cor stopped by to split up the CSA veggies. She’d had a doctor’s appointment in the area. I’d forgotten that she was coming (weird cold, I’m telling you.)

She chatted with me as I scrubbed the toilet, and gladly accepted a cup of coffee. Then she went to the kitchen to check out the CSA situation. “WHERE did you get the artichokes?” she yelled.

“Oh yeah! The CSA!” I yelled back, from under the toilet.

“I’m going to make them right now.” Water running, dutch oven out. I vacuum the house. She cooks. Mid-90s music blasts in the background. “Hey, Jen, Jeff’s on his way…Jeff’s in the closet. On the phone.” Laughter ensues, artichokes still boiling, vacuum still sucking, giggles emitting throughout the house.

I turn the vacuum off, Cor pulling the artichokes out of the water, whipping up a butter sauce. We spend the next 30 minutes devouring the three artichokes, along with cheese and crackers. Jeff moves from the closet to the bedroom.

Artichokes gone, Jeff off the phone, we clean up. Corelyn goes. The recycling goes out. I shower. Kelly calls, because SHE’S HERE. What a good Saturday…

This week? More Kelly. Carne asada, cookies (chewy, thanks Alton Brown), Glee, game plan for cleaning the office up (we’re moving soon), starting the book club book, blogging, St. Patrick’s Day, a night of dancing, general mayhem. Josh Kelley, dream your fears away, Maroon 5, throw back to 2005, and smelling spring, missing you.

and the beat goes on.

Last night I watched an episode of SVU where Benson and Stabler get kicked off a case because Benson is too attached and Stabler’s persistent support of Benson means he will look bad in front of the jury. “You’ve had Benson’s back for over a decade.”

They head out on the case anyways.

I put tights on this morning because I never wear pants when it’s raining (started in Boston so that my pant bottoms wouldn’t be wet ALL DAY when I was working at the toy store or I was sitting on my feet at KC’s kitchen table). I am wearing a dress.

I got to work, and realize my left toe is exposed. Run, found.

*****

I solved the Rubik’s cube last night. Thrice.

I have new stainless steel breading pans.
Happy Valentine’s Day to me! JH is always look out for me (and for his fave, mozz sticks.)
