it’s a good thing there is no cheese in my house.

You guys, I feel like a crazy addict. It’s Day 4 of our cleanse, and really Day 3 of the no-cheese world I am living in (because I had cheese earlier this week by accident) and thoughts of brie are haunting my dreams.  It’s a good thing there is no cheese around, or I am sure I would have dove right into it last night.

Last night, I was making dinner for Jeff and I, coming up with a lackluster protein (beans) for our spaghetti squash with pesto (homemade, sans cheese) and Brussels sprouts. I thought chicken, but we’ve been chicken heavy this week, and Jeff doesn’t like fish, and I hate the idea of tofu. I was making dinner, hungry from an afternoon of clementines and a handful of cashews, when I realized: I can have peanut butter. So I got myself a teaspoon of it, and let me tell you, peanut butter has never tasted so good.

I really wanted to add cheese to the pesto, cheese to the dinner, eat cheese before and after the meal, but I had to stay strong. So instead, we had popcorn for dessert as a treat (popcorn is intrinsically pretty good for you!) I was dreaming of cheese as I enjoyed my peanut butter, hoping that I could make it to Tuesday (Tuesday! So many days from now!) when I can eat cheese again.

Surprisingly, the no processed foods hasn’t been so hard (except you guys, I am so over nuts. I think I need to rethink this strategy and come up with some other snacks than cashews) but the cheese, the cheese! I can’t wait until I can get at that again.

In the meantime, I am stocking up on veggies and protein (just had leftover lemon chicken, potatoes, green beans, carrots, and broccoli!) and am trying to drink more water. This weekend, I plan on getting some oatmeal ready for next week’s breakfasts, making my own hummus to snack on at work, and figuring out some more snacks (maybe even good old peanut butter!) to bring to work so I’m not starving by 5 pm.

Any delicious snack ideas for me, guys?

adventuring across the country

I don’t know how it happened, but all of the sudden I am taking two trips in three weeks to visit my family and some of my bests that live in/around New York.

First, next Wednesday, I head to Chicago to visit my family, see James Taylor, and generally frolic around the area.

Then, I come back the following Monday, work scant two weeks, then head to New York on August 14 to see Katie, Sierra, Marissa, and enjoy New York in August (I try to say this without a scoff. If it’s 100 degrees, we may spend our time fanning ourselves in a department store.)

The following week, Kelly and Aaron are in my neck of the woods, and then its basically September. Someone, please tell me how that happened?

I am so glad that these trips came together — I cannot wait! In the meantime, I want to say: Happy Birthday, SS. I remember when we celebrated your birthday circa 2005, and I can’t wait to see you soon to celebrate this one, eight years later!

Here is a photo of me and SS, circa 2006, when I convinced her to traipse around Europe with me on about $500 and some luck. She came, because she was a good friend. We survived, have lots of stories, and will never do anything that silly again (will we?)

I love you something fierce, and can’t wait to see you in a month!

Closing the windows, making soup.

This week is flying by, due to a busy week at work, and a busy life at home.

On the agenda has been lots of Modern Family with Jeff. We’re almost through the first season, and we just started it last week.

We’ve also done laundry, I had a ladies night, we caught up with an old friend last night, and tonight Jeff heads to the OC to hang out with his bro. I am going to video chat with Corelyn and make zucchini bread, pasta fagioli, and a cake if I have time.

Which, obviously is the best night in a lady could ask for. Especially if this weather keeps it up. It’s finally getting chilly around here, which means I may put away my summer clothes (aka two thirds of my wardrobe) soon. We even closed the windows last night. And tonight, the low is 53. Soup, here I come.

On the agenda this weekend is a drive-in, shopping, maybe cleaning, going through the selects of photos from Nikki’s wedding, and getting you up to date on the biggest party Camp Waterloo had ever seen (and probably ever will see.)

I will leave you with a few shots of the big day!

knee-knocking, back-slapping fun.

As you all know, I’ve been away takin’ care of the business of my sister’s wedding. Sorry it’s been a while since I updated, but since I have SO MUCH to tell you about, I’ll start by showing you the results of the crafts at the wedding!

Here is a picture of the final seating chart cards. Thanks to Aunt Kathy for writing all the names!

This is the sign that Jon cut the wood for and I spray painted (with Jeff’s help), and Uncle Tony and Jeff nailed. Ahh, family team work.

Here is Lillian, the flower girl, carrying the bouquet we made. She was so gentle with it, which was adorable.

Folding the programs that I designed with Traci and Jeff’s help.

Next up? Some wedding photos, although picking through the thousands is going to be hard…

crafty, craftier, craftiest.

A few more crafts needed to be completed for Nikki’s wedding and I needed a little help. Partly because I was behind and partly because I’m not great at crafts. Luckily, the girls were coming over for Book Club and I was hosting, so I coaxed them into being my crafting buddies. Luckily, Cricket’s mom was in town, and she’s full of crafty knowledge and really did such excellent work I can’t even take credit for really any of the final product.

Here are the beginnings of the bouquet.

Look, me helping.

The lovely Jess, also making flowers.

The magical glue gun that Cricket’s mom suggested we use. So smart!
