Love has surely shifted my way

After near-radio silence, I’m happy to announce we have a venue, and a date for the Hayford/Palluzzi wedding!

After much research, we’ve decided on Kinney Bungalow in Narragansett, RI.

kinney

I fell in love with this location when we were searching, because of its history, its name, its tie to the West Coast, its distance from the ocean, the fact that it is next to a farm…pretty much everything about it. I was happy to find it was free for September 27, 2014, our now-official wedding date!

Thank you to Lauren for actually heading to Rhode Island to check out the venue and confirm that she could see Jeff and I getting married here. Now comes the rest of the planning, details from the caterer to the dress to the flowers.

I am the worst wedding planner you guys, following in Nikki’s footsteps. Luckily I’ve had Corelyn and Jeff around (who are excellent planners) to keep me on task, and there has been emergency chocolate (sorry, Mary!) and movies and wine after both planning sessions.

I think now that we have a date and a venue, I will be on better behavior, and planning might even be fun from now on! No more lying on the floor proclaiming I am sending a proxy to get married to Jeff, or deciding that I don’t care where I get married, as long as it meets one hundred insane standards I’ve set for no reason.

Here goes nothing, everyone! (438 days to go!)

I would never, ever let you go

This past weekend I headed to the great state of Michigan to see another one of my besties married off. Brittany and I have been friends since we were 13, when I befriended her in hopes of getting one of her friends to date me (which totally worked.) Needless to say, that didn’t last, but our friendship persevered over the years through soccer teams, and classes that kicked our butts, and then through college 800 miles apart, and now living our lives wholly 2,000 miles door to door.

Every time I see her, she makes me giggle, smile, and usually cry because I am just so freaking happy to see her. I am so glad I made it to her big day, where I got to watch her marry her bff (besides me, of course ;)) and also catch up with friends from HS who I don’t get to see too often (my parents have since moved from my HS town, plus everyone is scattered like Hansel and Gretel’s breadcrumbs across this great nation.)

Britty, Brother Llama, I love you. I am so happy for you and Allen!

Thanks to Jeff for the photos (and more here.)

if you’re ready/like I’m ready

Well, it’s an exciting time at Providential Life friends – Jeff and I got engaged this weekend!

This is the photo from Mary (thanks Mary!)

We are very excited for all that the year ahead will bring, but especially thankful that all of our friends were present for our big moment. Jeff proposed by the ocean, at sunset, two of our favorite things, with friends close by.

Before we were engaged, we were goofing off, per usual. Here, Mary, Ryan, and I nail the jumping shot on the first try.

Jeff was trying to propose, and I was meanwhile setting up a group photo. He was acting unusually frustrated – and now I know why…he wanted to propose!

And afterward, we got some shots with various friends, which was so fun and special!

Here we are updating facebook/instagram/etc with the news!

We were at the beach to celebrate Rebecca’s move to London, and so everyone we loved was there, luckily!

Thank you to everyone who came out and made the night so special (despite the fact that no one knew!) It was certainly a night to remember!

I am so excited to marry my best friend. I am so glad I got proposed to around all my friends, and then was able to enjoy a turkey sandwich. Afterwards, on the way home, Jeff and I stopped for In-n-Out fries and a shake to celebrate, and we talked about the night, which still feels so surreal, and I couldn’t help but think, I am the luckiest.

I love you, J. I love you, friends. It is truly a good, wonderful life we live.

everyday is day one

this weekend was: catching up on National Geographics, Glee, and loving the New Normal because it’s got Riley from National Treasure and because it’s about feelings; exploring new neighborhoods in the hopes of finding a new apartment; the most delicious sandwich I’ve ever had, and new Pink, DMB, Matchbox Twenty, and a surprising album from Jon McLaughlin; swapping clothes with friends; birthday parties, goodbye parties, and intense games of shuffleboard; more apartments tucked in the hills, coffee and a celebrity, bagels, and the Los Angeles Opera, the Two Foscari, and fancy dresses in ninety degree heat; delicious sandwiches from Grub, and politics, and the Master and everything that Joaquin and Amy and Philip have to teach us; Mario and blogging, and staying up past my bedtime.

two minutes, fifteen seconds.

So today Ellen, Jeff, and I completed our 80s-themed 5k.

It was Ellen and Jeff’s first competitive race, and my second, and we all managed personal bests! For me, I ran two minutes, fifteen seconds faster than my race last year with my sister. For that race, I trained for five and a half weeks, taking nearly two weeks off during training for when I was traveling across country with Corelyn.

This year, I trained for eight weeks, missing only one training day, despite making two cross-country trips during those eight weeks. (And, it should be noted, that running and I took a break between the two trainings – I ran maybe five times between the two trainings.)

I think my dedication to racing paid off, and gave me the desire to (gulp! I never thought I’d say this) run another race! Even though it was 85 degrees when we finished and we were all hot, exhausted, and sweaty, we all managed to discuss another race (maybe in the spring?) before heading home.

The race being 80s themed helped – lots of people dressed up, ready to race in tutus and leotards and pink tights. It also helped to have two novice runners with me instead of one experience runner (sorry Nik, but you’re a speed-demon) and it helped that instead of 40 degrees and sleeting, it was 80 degrees, sunny, with a slight breeze. And, there was no looping — one large loop (instead of 2.5 smaller ones at the Ann Arbor race.)

Here we are at the finish of the race!

I had a blast running with Ellen and Jeff, and know they had fun too — and I am proud of myself for running in sub-40, and beating my time from last race AND last weekend when I ran my practice 5k around the course at the Rose Bowl.

Here are the medals we got at the finish!

Next up, maybe we’ll run an 8k or 10k…the sky’s the limit, folks! Until then, I am spending the rest of the day preparing for an amazing long weekend, proud that our team finished strong.
