5gts: my soul sister is a rockstar edition.
1. My friend KC got some VERY exciting news today but I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about it on the airwaves as my blog is very famous and the information might get into the hands of someone we don’t want it to. It involves her career and is so exciting I had to call her and giggle on the phone for five minutes. I AM SO PROUD OF YOU K.
2. It’s Friday, which means tomorrow is Saturday, full of soccer and two birthday parties and a Valentine’s cooking class on Sunday. I cannot wait.
3. This photo of Corelyn and I from our shoot on the beach. Mary and I talked about this last night and how someone Googled a recipe and this came up and they recognized the photograph as Mary’s and it just made me happy that it all comes around and that we’re starting to influence each other’s professional careers!
4. Listening to “The Head and the Heart” Pandora, downloading new albums by Jonah Smith and Newton Faulkner, and the head-bopping beats of Needtobreathe.
5. Everlasting sunshine, 71 degree weather, and California.
Happy Friday, chickadees!!!
Downward facing dog.
We’re back at it, loves. Last night marked my reentry into the world of exercise and yoga. Yesterday morning, to prepare, I walked to the farmer’s market with Melissa, grabbed multi-colored vegetables (think green, red, yellow, purple…) and had two miles under my belt before brunch. Oh LA, I will make you a walking city, yet.
Jeff and I headed to brunch at 12:30 with Mary and George at a new place (for us) called Alcove. Which was a delightful, both for the company and the food.
After our brunch, instead of hiking (the original plan) we watched Gnomeo and Juliet. Which was hilarious enough to entertain us, and short enough not to waste the day away. After that, we started cleaning, and before we knew it it was…5:40?! What! But…we had (separate) plans in the Valley, at 6:00! It’s ok, I thought, we could make it. Out the door by 5:45, but it was.too.late. The Hollywood Bowl traffic had struck again, and I did a U-turn around 6:01 knowing I was not to make it to my yoga class.
Downtrodden and now sweaty, I made it home by 6:10 and rethought my options. I could sit down and watch hours of Lost. Or, I could find a Netflix Yoga class. I settled for the latter, and I am (glad?) I did. Although sore today I am SO GLAD I got back to my yoga practice. And, surprisingly, glad I did it alone, in my living room. My finger is not 100 percent yet, and it was nice to be able to pause to readjust or reorganize without feeling judged (which I realize is not the point of yoga to begin with.)
After yoga, I took a shower, made myself some leftovers for dinner, and settled down on the couch to sneak in a few episodes of Lost before Jeff got home. After that Jeff and I laughed and giggled until too late (does anyone out there have those nights with your significant other where it still feels like a sleepover party and you can’t get to bed because you’re laughing or chatting and can’t stop?)
Then it was into work early this morning, and another week at my new job. Where I am finally settling in. Feeling at home. Part of the team. Ready to go.
Here’s to another week. How was your weekend?
shower the people.
I’m feeling love, today, friends.
And so, I shower the people I love. with love.
Mary: Happy Birthday, lady! Happy 25. Happy done with 365. Happy new job where you get paid to do what you love. Happy summer. Happy memorial day. Happy I’m glad you’re alive and we’re friends.
Ellen: I am so proud of you in your new venture. You’re a champion of the world, and I know that getting the opportunity to get paid to write is the start of something big!
Katie: Happy belated b-day, lady. And happy back to the US, been to London, and holy crap! writing mag release is inching closer every second! I miss you every second of every day.
Nikki: Happy almost wedding. I promise to be more organized from here on out ;). Happy race weekend, and happy maybe running in clouds not pouring rain? You are awesome.
Marissa: I was thinking about you last night and sending you love vibes. It was when I was thinking to myself, “Man, I have such successful friends.”
Corelyn: I miss your face. But I have big things planned for GMS. Does that abbreviation work, by the way? I don’t know if it does. Anyways, I am excited. Hug Meg and Mary for me. Twice.
SS: I saw pregnant in heels the other day. It made me want to be rich and pregnant and live in New York. You could be my fabulous (although not uber gay) best friend and we could stroll around bossing people around looking hot. Thoughts? I miss your face and wish, poor and not pregnant, we could hang out more.
Megan, where have you been all my life? Let’s hang out soon. Rebecca, I loved seeing you two nights in a row. Let’s rinse and repeat soon. Melissa, good luck today. Jen, hope you’re feeling so excited as you leave SO SOON for such an adventure! Caitlin, thanks for bringing brie to book club. You rock my socks. Suzanne, welcome to book club and I hope we don’t scare you. Liz, thanks for always understanding that I need you to go with me on my errands because I need a second opinion, always. Courtney, Memorial Day plans worked to our favor, yesssss. Barbra, Fanboy Comics has been stellar lately. You are working so hard, and I hope we can have a girls night soon to celebrate. Traci, Marc Broussard. You, me. So excited. Jessica, can’t wait to see your new place! Cricket, I think you should reconsider joining book club, because we seem to talk about you every book club anyways. I’ll even consider reading another Nora Roberts. C’mon…. Ana, I am excited that you’re not going away this weekend because I’m selfish. There, I said it.
Shower your people with love, guys! Happy Thursday!!
71 and Sunny.
This, my friends, is why I love living in Los Angeles. Despite the fact that today it is pretty cloudy and I am still waiting for the afternoon sun to kick in, I am looking forward to a perfect week. During this perfect week I plan to dive into my running again, make a recipe for the Garlic, My Soul blog, finish my book club book and attend a meeting in which we will speak minimally about the book, and more about boys, friends, and Glee (some things never change.)
This weekend was quite relaxing, including an entire afternoon lounging in Malibu.
“So what are you doing?” My dad asked.
“I’m at a winery in Malibu, drinking wine and hanging out,” I told him.
“Of course you are,” he said.
Mary, thanks for making another birthday event awesome! I love your May birthday, what a great excuse to drink wine! Here are some choice photographs.
