5gts: i can make good turning amazing

1. My mom comes to town tomorrow, and my dad is already here! Super-fun weekend, bring it on.

2. No time for after-parent sadness, because on Monday they head back to Chicago and I head to NYC to see my sorella and co. for HAMILTON.

3. While in NYC, we’re going to play tourist – here I come, Lady Liberty! I can’t wait to do something in NYC that makes me feel like I’m 14 again, and maybe I’ll even by an I (HEART) NY shirt on a street corner for $3. I’m a wild woman!

4. Our first pizza night in our new house tomorrow night. This would be number 2, but see number 2, and you get me.

5. I’m sorry, have you seen 2? Also, Lin Manuel Miranda. Also, Angelina/Eliza/And Peggy. The list goes on…in fact, soon I’ll have my Hamilton playlist available for you. You’re welcome.

adventuring across the country

I don’t know how it happened, but all of the sudden I am taking two trips in three weeks to visit my family and some of my bests that live in/around New York.

First, next Wednesday, I head to Chicago to visit my family, see James Taylor, and generally frolic around the area.

Then, I come back the following Monday, work scant two weeks, then head to New York on August 14 to see Katie, Sierra, Marissa, and enjoy New York in August (I try to say this without a scoff. If it’s 100 degrees, we may spend our time fanning ourselves in a department store.)

The following week, Kelly and Aaron are in my neck of the woods, and then its basically September. Someone, please tell me how that happened?

I am so glad that these trips came together — I cannot wait! In the meantime, I want to say: Happy Birthday, SS. I remember when we celebrated your birthday circa 2005, and I can’t wait to see you soon to celebrate this one, eight years later!

Here is a photo of me and SS, circa 2006, when I convinced her to traipse around Europe with me on about $500 and some luck. She came, because she was a good friend. We survived, have lots of stories, and will never do anything that silly again (will we?)

I love you something fierce, and can’t wait to see you in a month!

Got a pack of cards, Obama on audio tape, and my fave boy…

Guys: I leave today on vacay to a cruise. In the Bahamas. With Jeff. and his family. I am so excited. I am excited to have a vacation that is a real vacation: not being home (although I love being home), not visiting people who I miss (and miss me too), not driving, not in charge. I cannot remember the last time I went on vacation to somewhere that wasn’t to visit someone. I think it might have been when I was in high school and my family and I went to San Francisco.

We went to the Galapagos, too, but that was with my dad’s work. Going to San Francisco was the last time that my vacation was about seeing something new, being with people you love, and not, you know, cleaning up the kitchen when we were done.

In college, every break was to home, to Jeff, to babysit. The past two years, I’ve been on a cross-country road trip, I’ve been to Michigan countless times, Chicago, New York, Washington state, China, San Francisco. Every vacation I take is amazing: but all tiring. All work. This one, this is about relaxation. This is about having a good time. This is about the sun, the sky, the water, rest. I will sleep. I will read. I will listen to Obama. I will love Jeff. I will shop, I will visit new countries. I will enjoy Jeff’s family. I will come back tired. I will be rejuvenated. I will be ready for: Pittsburgh, Connecticut, and Chicago. I will be ready for weddings, for red eyes, for family, for babies and for loving.

What are all of you doing for vacations this year? Are you going abroad? Staying home? Visiting friends? Perhaps, visiting me? Picking strawberries on a remote farm in Vermont? Do tell!
