Your mother would want you to!

Hey all!! Here comes the busy season at my job, but as this season gets busy, what else is gearing up? The midterm elections. I encourage all of you to get out and vote. Now, before you say, “Why does she have to get all political in the fall?” It’s because I care. About you, me, and our children’s future. My parent’s future. Everyone’s future. And I need you to care, too. By getting out and voting, you’re showing that you care, and that you vote for those who care, and who will make a difference. Tell me where you’re living, and if you’re voting, and how many times you’ve voted. First time? GREAT! Second time? EVEN BETTER. Participation is strongly encouraged; we don’t want anyone dropping out, which is typical for midterms.

But, Jennie, does it matter? How many seats are being contested?!

100 seats in the House. That’s 23% of the House!

19 seats in the Senate. That’s 19% of the Senate!

28 Governor races are happening, too. 56% of the governors are up!

Friends in Connecticut, California, MassachusettsMichigan, New YorkPennsylvania, Virginia….I’m looking to you. Political website are full of information about each race, and the New York Times is just a starting point.

Need an absentee ballot? There is Michigan’s.
Here is Massachusetts.

Who else needs info? Let me know.

Watch this video, and enjoy — and VOTE.

Friday's hero: Representative Weiner, you steal my heart.

As Rep. Weiner wrote for the New York Times:

I love the House of Representatives and its rules, and I was careful to respect regular order. But I believe sometimes we mistakenly assume you can’t follow those rules and also say what you think, forcefully. Especially when this galling behavior has been on display for years now.

Check out his opinion piece here: Why I Was Angry.

What up, Kate? I think you're awesome.

This is my friend Kate. And her bf Tom. And me.

That’s her 4 years ago.

This is her last summer.

That’s me and my bests. Last summer. I love them.

Anyways, back to Kate. This is the thing: she’s amazing. wonderful. She’ll watch an entire season of any TV show you want in one sitting, ice cream and snacks in hand. She’ll also finish an entire tub of hummus and celery sticks with you on her roof over a pitcher of sangria. She’ll also go to the museum with you, and have something intelligent to say about just about every artist there. And even artists who aren’t. She’ll watch Oscar-nominated films, indie films, and bad chick flicks with you, and enjoy them all. She’ll defend you to the death, cut someone with a shank for you, if she needs to, and makes sure to always say “please” and “thank you” and “Is there more coffee?” She’s pretty much my fave. And she, my friends, is also a ridiculously talented writer. (I know, you’re not surprised. I wasn’t, either.)

She has been published here. Go read it. I’ll wait.

SO good, right? I just love her. Check her blog out, here. She’s totally worth it. I promise. (Like an extra set of crunches, or that extra handful of cranberries on your morning cereal, or that last episode of Full House about the time they lose Comet.)

You can thank me later.
