Do you have regular cups?

I received this message from my friend Paul the week before last, and knew what it meant:

The red cups, that I really, really, really, really, really don’t like, were back.

The next day, I was on my way to a friend’s wedding on the opposite coast, after a red eye that I almost didn’t make, and we were stopping for coffee. When T asked if I wanted anything, I said yes, then stood behind him at the counter, and asked the barista, “Do you have any non-red cups? Like, do you have regular cups?” She looked at me like I was insane, and said no, before sliding a red cup my way.

For the record, T did not look at me like I was crazy, but I know he thought it.

Alas, this morning I went to Starbucks to use up an old gift card (and because I’m out of coffee, which is horrifying) and this is what I was greeted with:

For the record, I like these even less than I liked the 2012 cup…which I did not like. At least it was chilly this morning, so I can forgive Starbucks for spreading holiday cheer so early in the year…maybe…

Happy nearly-Thanksgiving, everyone.

“no wait, I need a regular cup.”

This is what I said to the nice barista at Starbucks tonight when he attempted to put my latte into a red cup. Becca had texted me earlier, to tell me.

I saw a red Starbucks cup already today. Ugh!

We went anyways, knowing what it meant. Paul assured me they’d give me a white cup if I asked. So when the barista reached to double cup my latte, I shouted “NO.” He looked at me like I was crazy, and said, “Please, do not…I need a white cup. Please do not give me a red cup.” He obliged, but Jeff wasn’t so…crazy…so he got a red cup. They’re not even cute this year. The barista said, “Yea, this is a little early this year.” I didn’t have the heart to tell him this is the second year in a row they’ve come out on November 1.

I look forward to seeing a red cup after Thanksgiving. For now, I think it’s best to avoid Starbucks.

the red cup, and other holiday signs.

I believe I saw a red cup this morning.

You know how I feel about red cups.  Right, you know about my feelings towards them? Three years running?

At least today it’s only 73 degrees, not the 80 it has been the past few years on the day I discovered the red cup.

Picture to come, when I actually visit Starbucks and see if it’s true.

Meanwhile, some other things:

1. Corelyn is coming to Los Angeles for Thanksgiving. I will be posting more in depth about this on GMS, but I wanted you to know.

I haven’t seen this girl since May, and I am so excited to have her around for three days!!!

2. Thanksgiving is coming, and we’re getting our menu ready. New kind of turkey, new venue, and new friends. What could be better?

3. Hello, it’s NOVEMBER? What? I can’t believe it. Also: my office is participating in Movember, as is Jeff. Pictures to come.

4. The Head and the Heart.

5. It’s 11:11 on 11/1/11.
