#30dayspositive

One of my yoga teachers, who I am sure I’ve talked about before, is doing this thing called 30 Days Positive. You can learn about it here, but it’s basically about losing the negativity and finding positivity in each and every day. Here’s my first eight days.

8/2/2012 – day one: went to Shark Week 25th Anniversary party. Ate a cupcake.

8/3/2012 – day two: found this of nikki and me…guess I have to update this one!

8/4/2012 – day three: beach day for myself, including crosswords and MVY Radio.

8/5/2012 – day four: gluten free blueberry pie.

8/6/2012 – day five: Yesterday I lost my keys, forgot to put butter in my pie, and got a piece of plastic stuck in garbage disposal. Jeff got the plastic out, the pie was delicious, and the Farmer’s Market called to tell me they have my keys. #30dayspositive. Win.

8/7/2012 – day six: laundry = done.

8/8/2012 – day seven: taking time to feed Jeff and I right.

8/9/2012 – day eight: second night of homemade meals, this time, Summer Vegetable Pasta with goat cheese.

Shark Week 25th Anniversary Party

This past Thursday, I had the honor of going to the 25th Anniversary Shark Week Party! It was such a fun event (sushi bar included!) and I had a blast seeing the sharks on the big screen and a sneak peek of what’s to come next Sunday!!

This was the DJ…floating over the pool. Pretty sweet, right?

This is the Volkswagen Beetle Shark Observation Cage.

Here it is in our sneak-peek in action. This bad boy drives across the bottom of the ocean floor…and I can’t wait to see more of it during Shark Week!

And here is a photo of me in the cage. I know you’re jealous.

Shark Week cupcakes. Love them, so much.

This is the screen that had shark footage projected on it during most of the party.

To give you an idea of how big the projection was…

This is a shark sculpted out of sand.

Can you believe that’s sand? I can’t, and I was THERE.

And here I am, on the shark carpet! This has definitely got me pumped for Shark Week, starting August 12. Only one more week!

5gts: Young Love edition.

1. Mat Kearney’s new CD came out today. I am going to pick it up after work today. I guess I am one of the only people who still buys physical CDs.

2. Tonight I am hanging out with these girls so we can watch Shark Week and eat Thai. It is going to be such a great night.

3. This weekend I am headed to CT to see my fam, extended and not, and my friends from the east. I cannot wait to eat seafood and hug all the newest babies.

Chatfield Hollow and Family Picnic, here I come!

4. Tomorrow is book club. We have a few new members, and some non-members visiting. It is going to be such a blast. My book club ladies (and now gentleman!) make me laugh so hard I can’t breathe, and it’s always so fun I never want to leave.

5. Today we had a fire drill at work, and as a reward for doing such a good job we’re getting free frozen lemonade. I love me some frozen sugar.

Shark Week 2011

I went back through my blog to see all the times I’ve yammered on about how much I love Shark Week and how it’s my favorite thing and I wait all summer — year really — for this week then act like a hermit and sit in my house and stare at the TV for two hours every night so excited and scared I don’t know what to do with myself, but as it turns out, I’ve never before mentioned it on my blog? I don’t know how this can be.

Shark Week began in 1987, a mere year after my birth. I’ve been watching it since my sister and I used to wear matching outfits in different colors, which probably means about the fourth grade, which if you’re doing the math was the summer of 1996. I was ten.

When we were little we used to swim on the Martha’s Vineyard beaches where Jaws was shot. When we swam in the Sound, we convinced ourselves there were only nurse sharks, or baby lemon sharks, nothing to be afraid of. When I moved to the Pacific, I had to carefully remind myself that great white sharks don’t attack often. (Although after last night’s information, I might be changing my view.)

When I went to China for the Olympics I made sure to have somewhere DVR Shark Week, which I missed being abroad. I have yet to miss a Shark Week, making sure to watch every new episode at least once, and usually rewatching them each season when they’re on.

My sister and I have spent extensive time discussing which Shark is the most dangerous. Tiger? Bull? White? I vote bull sharks, those crazies can swim in fresh water. No one, not even in rivers, is safe, my friends.

It’s my favorite thing about summer. It’s my favorite programming all year. It’s like the best NatGeo of the year rolled into a week. I urge you to join me.
