every moment is yours.

That is what my yoga teacher said this morning during class:

“This is your moment. Wait, every moment is yours. Awesome.”

Simple, yet powerful. Don’t we all live such lucky, wonderful lives?

Since I haven’t worked this week or last, I have had time to do things like get coffee with an old boss, exercise every day, work on the blog a little more, look for jobs of course, catch up on my inbox (and Mary’s, too!), edit friends papers, get coffee with friends, and appreciate this sky we live under just a little more:

sunrise sunset skyHere’s a list of 5gts, Thursday style:

1) Had an interview today.

2) Fell off my chair during the interview (standing up to shake someone’s hand.) Luckily, we were able to laugh it off (and at least they’ll remember me!)

3) Jukebox the Ghost + Josh Ritter concerts both coming up in the next few weeks.

4) My mom and dad are coming to visit LA for the first time – and I can hardly wait.

5) Sunshiny days that have been gracing Los Angeles this past week (and mostly always.)

I hope that wherever you are, you have blue sky, too, friends.

if you’re ready/like I’m ready

Well, it’s an exciting time at Providential Life friends – Jeff and I got engaged this weekend!

This is the photo from Mary (thanks Mary!)

We are very excited for all that the year ahead will bring, but especially thankful that all of our friends were present for our big moment. Jeff proposed by the ocean, at sunset, two of our favorite things, with friends close by.

Before we were engaged, we were goofing off, per usual. Here, Mary, Ryan, and I nail the jumping shot on the first try.

Jeff was trying to propose, and I was meanwhile setting up a group photo. He was acting unusually frustrated – and now I know why…he wanted to propose!

And afterward, we got some shots with various friends, which was so fun and special!

Here we are updating facebook/instagram/etc with the news!

We were at the beach to celebrate Rebecca’s move to London, and so everyone we loved was there, luckily!

Thank you to everyone who came out and made the night so special (despite the fact that no one knew!) It was certainly a night to remember!

I am so excited to marry my best friend. I am so glad I got proposed to around all my friends, and then was able to enjoy a turkey sandwich. Afterwards, on the way home, Jeff and I stopped for In-n-Out fries and a shake to celebrate, and we talked about the night, which still feels so surreal, and I couldn’t help but think, I am the luckiest.

I love you, J. I love you, friends. It is truly a good, wonderful life we live.

5gts: home for the holiday edition

Well folks, we’re rolling into Thanksgiving tomorrow, and we have so much to be thankful for. Here’s a good ole classic 5gts edition:

1. Tomorrow I am running my third 5k with my dad, sister, and Jeff.

2. There is prune cake, chocolate chip pumpkin muffins, and a quiche all waiting for me come tomorrow morning’s breakfast.

3. Four more days of vacation means a pizza night, friends to see, a giant turkey, saying grace with my LA family, and yoga classes to be had.

4. Joe Biden. Happy belated birthday, Joe. (Also, this gif.)

5. Thanksgiving, the best holiday of the year!

Happy Thanksgiving, lovelies. Hug someone close.

5 things: late october

1. Fall is finally cooling down (although now that I say that, I bet it’ll get to be 90 again…)

2. This is my mug until November 6 (and for the next four years.)

3. Early Halloween Costumes.

4. Weekend adventuring, fabric stores, new plates for GMS, my first trip to the Getty Villa, birthday parties and early Halloween parties, soccer practice in the rain, dying hair, beers and  pink lipstick and binoculars and SNL and the promise of a lovely week ahead.

5. This mash-up from Pitch Perfect.

Now the the 5K has past, and fall is settling in, I think its time to get back to basics, to get on a schedule, and to make some plans. Summer is my favorite season because it’s carefree, fun, happy, sunshiny. Autumn is my favorite season because it’s about back to it, organization, cooling it down, enjoying every precious sunshiny moment.

What am I going to be up to this fall?

1. Getting on the blog. Big plans for GMS and this blog, but I think I need a noncomputer day to map out everything I think and feel and just create. I am recommitting myself to keeping both blogs accurate, not letting one suffer for the other.

2. Putting me first. This fall, I am going to try to: a) get up early enough to eat breakfast at home; b) get back to exercising my whole body, keeping up running and yoga, too; c) learn how to meditate, and spend at least 10 minutes a day doing so.

3. Moving on up. I want to be looking for two bedroom apartments so we can find somewhere to live that fits our growing lifestyle, and allows Jeff and I to work from home without sacrificing comfort.

4. Paring down, doubling down. Moving and putting me first mean really looking at my “busy” to see what it’s comprised of. Fun activities that uplift me, or commitments that stress me out? Everything is up for evaluation (soccer coaching already passed the test, as did book club.)

5. Relaxing. All of this is to say, relax. Figuring out how to do nothing, and be OK with that. Enjoying small moments, the sun, the wind, the sounds around me, my friends’ laughter, smiles.

Excuse me, now, whilst I head to finish a National Geographic.
