At least give me time to change your mind.

Hello friends! Wednesday, we’re almost to the end of the week. And, since it’s 11 here, that means it’s 2 for most of you, which is much closer to the end of the day. Hooray! Here in California we are soaking in the rays of the sun that will disappear come June. Yep, that’s right. Months to not look forward to in SoCal? June, November, December, and January. And February sometimes. But our complaints are minuscule – we don’t like those months because that’s when it rains. And, for the month of June, it’ll be cloudy here. Hopefully the weather will hold off until my birthday, but right now it looks like it’ll at least hold off through Jeff”s.

We’re rolling towards the end of the middle of the week, so I figured I’d give you something entertaining to keep you awake this afternoon.

1. Pictures from the Icelandic volcano

2. New Death Cab album. Listen up, folks!

3. How to plant salsa in your backyard. You can thank me later.

4. Omelette you finish…but…

5. Because we all need a little help, sometimes.

What Internet sites are you browsing, lately, friends?

Home again, home again.

Jeff and I arrived home on Saturday. We had In-n-Out for dinner with M, and hung out with her for a few hours, laughing and chatting. Best part? Seeing my finished OWL SWEATER (pictures to come once the owls have eyes) and an equally as awesome OWL HAT because M is the BEST EVER.

Yesterday was a relaxing day in LA. We woke up late, headed to the farmer’s market, which was rainy, cold, and lacking serious vegetables. I blame it on our 12 pm arrival and the fact that LA can’t handle the rain, but I managed to snag some celery and carrots from the mix. We had lunch, then headed home, where I snuggled up with The Birth of Venus (our book club book this month) and read for hours. After that, we both showered to get warm (LA needs to learn about insulation) and had Mac and Cheese for dinner, while watching “The Hangover.” It was a much needed “chill” day filled with peace and quiet. Jeff and I are still (STILL) coming off our colds, so I think it was good to recoop.

On the agenda this week is: getting better, going back to yoga, and to the gym, getting back into the swing of work, eating healthy and eating home, finding buttons online for my owl sweater, scheduling some dinners to see friends I’ve been missing, and gearing up for a busy month.

How is your daily grind settling back in?

we’ll take a cup of kindness yet…

Happy New Year’s Eve, folks! 2010 has ended with a bang, no doubt. Here in Chicago we’ve been checking things off Nikki’s wedding list quite quickly. Photographer, check. Location, check. Caterer, check.

Dress. Check. (And that’s all I can say about that, because I happen to know that her fiancé reads my blog.)

Anyways, as we ring in the New Year tonight with, among other things, chocolate cookies and crabbies, we will be thinking about our new year’s resolutions.

*Try to get to many new restaurants, as LA has a lot to offer.
* Simultaneously be less stressed and have a year of high adventure, including a trip to Big Bear to ski.
* Go to the gym. For real. This includes many yoga trips, s t r e t c h i n g, and getting in shape for Nikki’s wedding.
* Throw away less food. Make more home cooked meals. Eat more veggies. Eat more fruit.
* Read. Read. Read.

What are your resolutions? What does your NYE look like?

In the interest of full disclosure.

Today:

I am not wearing socks (I forgot)
I am wearing my hair up, and my bangs pinned back (It was that kind of day)
I am wearing a shirt C gave me, with a scarf B and B gave me, which makes me happy
I had oatmeal for breakfast (cinnamon roll kind)
I listened to Third Eye Blind and Graham Colton on the way to work
I laughed hysterically because I made E spill all over himself on the ride to P
(how many people will you tell? he said. I won’t, I said. except for everyone who reads my blog, I thought…)
I am going to drink lots of water and lots of tea
I will be planning an event, and debriefing from one yesterday
I will answer the phone approximately 20 times
(and only 1 or 2 of the calls will actually be for me)

Today I also:

will play Scrabble. will see M. will smile.
will watch Glee. and maybe Raising Hope.
will work on my spreadsheet for Thanksgiving, and maybe N and J’s wedding
will read at least one news article about a celebrity, and one about the midterm elections.
will probably check facebook for sanity’s sake.
will probably hear a five year old say, “last one’s a rotten egg”
will go to yoga. will love it. will think about how I need a new mat, probably when T says, “Think of nothing.”

Back to school, back to school…

I work at a school, if you haven’t gathered that already.

Today is Day 1 for the high schoolers. Do you even REMEMBER the first day of high school? I don’t, but I remember plenty of DAYS from high school, and let me tell you: I’m glad that’s over.

But I digress. My point is: today is the first day. Of September, of school, of another academic year. Although most of us live our days out on a yearly calendar, I can’t help thinking it’s nice I never took a break from the academic cycle. New pencils, new clothes, new friends, and new projects all start in September. Another holiday season, coming up before we know it. Another fall full of Indian Summer days, cool nights, and wishing in vain that crunchy leaves would fall (and they will, although late here, in California…)

Things that are happening in my autumn:

Melissa has moved to LA (thank God!) and we’re going to explore the wonderful world of gluten-free cooking.

SS and K get here this weekend to celebrate Labor Day in full force.

A third Thanksgiving with my Cali-family.

Book fairs, soccer games, and farmer’s markets full of spaghetti squash (they are on their way: I saw them this weekend.)

My job’s busy season: my time to shine.

Moms coming to town. (Thought not my own, moms are always nice to have around.)

Chaperoning, because apparently I’m old enough.

Rock climbing.

This is also the time of the year that my blog entries thin, but I will do my best to keep up.
