This is why I shall gain 50 pounds.

Every day when I get to my desk, there is something new on the office table to eat. Cake, cookies, chocolates, candy, and sometimes fruit. A bag of kumquats here, some lemons there, always something from a tree or a plant or someone’s garden. Roses, daisies, leftover dyed flowers from an event. And sometimes, recyclable bags or gifts from someone’s goodies they no longer want. People are also starting to figure out I always take their junk, and so I’ve acquired some random items including but not limited to a whale pencil holder. But, inevitably, the point is there is always food.

Yesterday I made it all day and didn’t eat one chocolate that were on the table by 7:30am. I watched them go, one by one, until noon, and never made a move. (Of course, I found an excuse to polish off a bag of salt & vinegar chips when I got home, but the point is at work I stayed strong.)

Today, I was handed a piece of chocolate cake. Handed. I didn’t have a choice. I gobbled it right up. Yum.

I am ruined.

God wants you to recycle.

This is what I have decided:

God wants you to recycle.

I am sick of hearing about people who don’t care about recycling, and I am sick of hearing about people tell me why I should go to church. I think that everyone’s relationship with God should be their own, and I think that God would probably tell you to recycle.I have had countless people tell me, “You should join a church.” Blah blah blah, God this, God that. And some of those very same people go around throwing their plastic in the garbage, tossing gum out the window of their car, “forget” that milk cartons can be put in the blue bin. What is the matter with everyone?

God gave us this one world, right? And we’re supposed to live here, hang out a while, be nice to people, and head over to him when we’re done? Cool…so why wouldn’t we clean up after ourselves?

After all, he did all that creating for a reason, and I am pretty sure he designed it the way he did for a reason. So we took down some trees, put up some houses, explained to God we needed somewhere to live. He got that, right? Dwellings have been around awhile, and since there hasn’t been a huge disaster, I guess he understands.

But then, we pushed it. We needed a pool, some TV, some video games, the spa, a place to get our hair done, somewhere to buy our clothes, somewhere to store the stuff we don’t need anymore. We need soda and junk food and plastic and Styrofoam and Tupperware. We need cell phones, house phones, computers, iPods. Oh, and chargers for all those things. We swear, God. We need them because we are humans. And we need them because everyone else has them. We need them because we’re humans who are more advanced than other animals. And you made us that way.

Well fine. We have houses, and TVs, and video games, and spas. And I use all those things. But the least we can do for God, the very least we can do, is pick up our shit when we’re done.

And, if not for God, for our children. Or our siblings’ children. Our friends’ children. Whoever.

So, people, pick up your shit. Separate it, recycle. Hold your can until you get home if you have to, put it in a blue bin. Use both sides of paper, and unplug stuff you’re not using.

Try harder, everyone. OK? Could you do that for me? For the kids you know? For God?

For Earth?

Thanks.

peace/love.

Focusing on purple: update.

Today I had to make some copies. Usually when I get to make copies, I also get to pick what color they will be. Sometimes this is daunting, because who knows what color certain kids will like? But today I used a color called Echo Orchid.

The color of the background. And earlier in the day, coincidentally, I changed my mail program’s color to “lavender.” (The word purple in the picture.)

It’s a good day.

(Purple also reminds me of Kelly Sue, and this book.)

Some things to tell you.

Guys, I have so many little things to tell you!

* I have this plant at work. It’s SO needy. It legitimately needs water every day. It was regifted to me from my coworker because she’s not really into plants. And what am I supposed to do? Let it die? I think not. So I have to water it every day. This weekend we had a three day weekend, and when I got back all the leaves were droopy, and several were yellow. NEEDY.

* I dropped my iPod on my toe yesterday on the way out of my bedroom. It is bruised.

* I want to start bird watching in LA. To prepare, I am reading this article.

* I cut myself some bangs this weekend. My longer bangs just keep getting all up in my business.

* I wore capris with sneakers today. It looks a little weird, but I can’t help it. I need the sneaks to walk, and it’s hot. I might have to get some cuter kicks.

* Corelyn and I are going to make summer dresses and skirts. We’ll let you know how it goes.

* There are 2 Dunkin Donut mugs on my desk. I didn’t bring one home yesterday because I had to take the train. It is shameful. I might make Jeff come in and collect them tomorrow before he scurries off to work.

* Speaking of the train, I think I am going to finish my book today because I have been riding the train! How awesome is that!?

* I am volunteering tonight. I don’t really want to, because I am a bit tired, but that’s the point of volunteering, I think. So I am going anyways. Besides, it’s only for an hour, and it’s with children, so I think it’ll be good.

* This morning I woke up 1 minute before my alarm went off and convinced myself it was rainy outside. It was not. I was also convinced that I was WIDE awake. And woke up after 1 snooze 9 minutes later…

* This morning, while 5 people were in my office AND I was on the phone, I spilled coffee all over my desk. Whoops. But, the nice thing was, no one noticed!!

* One of the kinder teachers just broke cake in. I am excited and saddened by this, because I’ve already eaten M&Ms today. Whoops.
