an elephant named Jennie.

Today Jeff and I ventured to the Skirball with M and M to see the Houdini exhibit. We’d been talking about it all summer, and with only two weekends to go, despite still feeling the kick of this summer cold, we decided it was best we go. Off to the westside we went, to see Houdini and all his magician glory.

As it turns out, the Skirball was having another exhibit about Jewish magicians in general, which was a fun way to see where Houdini fit into the historical timeline. Also interesting was the hand lithography had in making magic as well known and popular as it became during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

The exhibit was a good time, although we were sad not to see any magic acts taking place, and missed the musical portion of the afternoon. We did get tacos afterwards though, so all and all, a good day with M and M.

And, we did find out that Houdini’s elephant’s name was Jennie. A perfect name for a disappearing elephant, I think.

But I would be proud to partake of your pecan pie

Last night JT and I ordered Indian, chatted with some ladies for a bit, then settled in to watch When Harry Met Sally.

A delightful film that we were both in the mood to watch on account of it being such a gem, Billy Crystal being both hilarious and sweet, and Meg Ryan’s outfits. Some of which we’ve seen walking around LA recently…but that’s another story.

Watching When Harry Met Sally fulfills so many movie needs: Road trip, New York, New York in the fall, great outfits, comedy, beauty, classic lines, people in love when they don’t even KNOW it, etc., etc. It was delightful to see a movie with fall (and seasons) to remind me of what’s to come.

I’m not saying I’m sick of summer yet. Because I’m not. I might even try to get Jeff to venture to the beach this weekend – I could use some more tan on my summer skin. But I also love seasons, and I love what’s coming; Camping in September, Nikki’s wedding, Thanksgiving, Christmas. Friends, family, food, cold weather, blankets, windows closing.

So even though August is barreling on, and we’re nearly to the month of nine, I am happy where this year has gone and is going, and hope the next four months are as fun as these first eight.

Paint it black.

You can barely tell it is black and that I have a bruised nail. I do disguise well. I am coyote. (By the way, have you ever seen that Fresh Ink card? Anyways…)

Anyways, here are five good things for the weekend:

1. I am headed to CT on the red eye tonight. 8:46, here we go.

2. Tomorrow is my sister’s CT shower, which will involve delicious food and so much laughter.

3. I have a book and two NatGeo’s waiting for me once this day is up.

4. Sappy, but I get to see Jeff tomorrow for the first time since last Thursday. It’s been a long week and a half!

5. Painting my nails black? Best idea ever.

Sooner or later/I swear we’re gonna make it

Morning friends.

This morning marks my 500th blog post. I started this blog on October 17, 2008, nearly three years ago, upon my move to Los Angeles. I’ve written through a few jobs (working at the school, my newest job with Rebecca) and through new experiences (becoming a soccer coach, free lancing for a local magazine, running a 5k) and through exciting life changes (numerous cousins being born, my sister getting engaged.)

This is a picture of Jeff and I, three days after I started my new blog.

This is our birthday party this year. I think we look pretty much the same.

One of my first photographs of food, when I started this blog. On my point and shoot.

A more recent photo from this spring. On Jeff’s fancy camera.

Do you see the difference? I sure do. In food quality and photo quality.

This blog has allowed me to have a place for people to follow me through my adventures, and to write when I feel the need to just get it all out. I look forward to the next 500 posts. I hope to continue to entertain you about my life, from the boring days of Shark Week to the exciting ones of my sister’s wedding. The past three years has since an advance in my photography skills, more than twenty “5 Good Things,” and a new cooking blog to focus on.

Life has gotten so exciting over the past three years, and I can’t wait to see what the next three years brings. Thank you, friends, for reading about my life, caring about my stories, and eating my food. It’s been a blessing.
