Snickerdoodles with Reese's Pieces

A few days ago, I asked my friend El about cookies. Via email. The following is our email convo:

“If you were to eat a cookie, which flavor would you like it to be?”

“Matzah flavored,” he replied, since it is Passover.

“What if it WASN’T Passover? Then what kind of cookie?” I asked.

“That’s tough.  I like all cookies!  probably snickerdoodle with Reese’s pieces,” he replied.

So I made him some Reese’s pieces Snickerdoodles. On account of it being his birthday week, and all.

I used a recipe from FoodNetwork, since I have never made snickerdoodles before, except ONCE in the 7th grade in my first week of Home Ec when I had first moved to MI. It was a traumatic experience, as I had only ever made chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin, and had never heard of snickerdoodles. What land has my parents brought me to, one where cows and tractors and snickerdoodles are plentiful?? I asked myself this question daily for a few weeks, and since my Home Ec teacher was dramatic and told me I shouldn’t chew gum and had a problem with me from Day 1 (I’m pretty sure my mom got a call or two), I vowed I would hate snickerdoodles forever. Of course, I haven’t eaten any since then, nearly 10 years ago, and had nearly forgotten my hatred until El asked me to make them. Alas, I still don’t really like them. But hopefully he will.

Recipe

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup butter-flavored shortening ( I used regular Crisco )
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar, plus 2 tablespoons for dusting
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour ( I used wheat flour. Shh!! Don’t tell El. )
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon ( I probably used more. )

I did not use the “chocolate sticks” mentioned on the recipe page, instead I put Reese’s pieces into the dough (after making some for Jen, on account of her peanut allergy.) They were good plain OR with Reese’s. If, you know, you’re into snickerdoodles.

IN OTHER NEWS…

The only person who reads my blog that may know this is M. OK and maybe a bunch of you, but I had no idea!!

cinnamon-tree

DID YOU KNOW THAT CINNAMON IS TREE BARK? I would like to move to the land of Cinnamon-barked trees. It’s almost as good as Candy Land. Only the place in which Cinnamon-barked trees grow is in Sri Lanka.

Apparently we need “tropical sunshine and abundant rain” and I don’t know if I can recreate it. I might try to, in the bathtub, if Jeff says it’s OK. More to come.

Spring's here…tomorrow morning at 7:44 am EST (4:44 am here.)

Welcome, Spring. Although it’s already 77 degrees here, I am still excited that you are coming tomorrow. I can hardly wait! In preparation for your arrival, I did a little research about the Sun.
DID YOU KNOW that the Sun moves a up a little in the sky, hence winter, spring, etc.? I mean, I guess I knew that, but I wasn’t sure what that exactly looked like. Now I do. Enjoy.

Shopping for less: the fun way!

So, guys, this weekend when I was in Forks, I was climbing over a fallen tree (that was over a stream) in an attempt to get to the beach. I managed to make the hole that was already in my jeans a larger one. This was bad news bears, indeed. I then proceeded to wear the jeans the rest of the weekend, and now they are absolutely inappropriately ripped.

Because I wear jeans to work sometimes (yay working at a school!) I decided that owning only one pair was probably not going to work. So last night, after work, I set out to Ross (which, for those of you on the East Coast, is much like TJ Maxx) to try a new store out and hopefully get some jeans.

I had never been to Ross before, but my friends told me it was excellent. Well, boy, did I get lucky!! If you don’t mind sifting through the racks, which I usually don’t, you get lucky.

Maybe you didn’t know, but Ross is the best place, ever.

Purchases?

Nine West jeans that are $34.99 on their website (I got them for $19.99)

A pair of jean capris ($13.99, thank you.)

timberlandsTimberland shoes that are around $90.00 online (I got them for $16.99, and my sister hates them, as I thought she would.)

sandals

Simple Green Toe sandals, selling for $29.60 online. I got mine for $8.99 (Mine are a beige, instead of that green on the fabric.)

sneakers

Asic sneakers (although my stripe is blue, not green) that are going online for $64.95! Mine were $13.99. Excellent.

Overall, best day. I really needed new everyday sneakers, since mine are heavy duty and make me hot, and my feet need a break from dress shoes. I also needed another pair of sandals, since I live in LA and the forecast today is high of 77, and I only have 1 pair that doesn’t make my feet cry.

The slip on shoes will prove helpful when I am trying to head out somewhere with Jeff (grocery, Target, park, etc.) and it’s too cold for sandals but I don’t want to get my sneakers on. Sometimes, I am just that lazy.

AND I have some new sneakers that make me feel good, and with summer on the way, jean capris never hurt anyone.

Happy Almost-Spring, everyone.
